Become a 1st Responder

Volunteering to become a Community 1st Responder is challenging but also hugely rewarding as you can make a huge contribution to your community.

All SECAmb 1st Responders undergo intensive training and assessment with Paramedic Community Defibrillator Officers for South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust, to enable them to deliver the following level of skills and care using the equipment.

• Use of an Automated. External. Defibrillator. (AED)
• Oxygen Therapy
• Bag-Valve-Mask Resuscitation
• C.P.R (Cardio. Pulmonary. Resuscitation.)
• First Aid, Patient Care and Assessment
• Recognition of cause and type of illness/injury
• Scene safety and Incident Management 

• Category “A” calls - (serious, life threatening)
• Cardiac Arrest
• Unconscious and collapsed patients
• Chest pains (e.g. heart attacks and acute angina)
• Breathing difficulties (e.g. asthma, acute onset emphysema/bronchitis)
• Diabetic emergencies (e.g. hypoglycemia)
• Fitting or convulsions (e.g. epilepsy)
• Stroke (CVA)
• Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
• Choking patient
